Meet Gary and Harry: Our Albino Giant African Land Snails!
At St Peter's C of E Primary School, we are lucky to have two very special residents—Gary and Harry, our albino giant African land snails. They’ve been with us since they were just tiny babies, and over the years, they’ve grown into fascinating creatures that bring joy and learning to our school community.
A Little About Our Snails
Giant African land snails are known for their impressive size, and albino snails like Gary and Harry are especially unique with their pale, creamy white appearance. Although they may look a little unusual, they are gentle creatures who love exploring their environment and enjoying fresh fruits and vegetables.
What Do They Eat?
Gary and Harry enjoy a variety of fresh foods including lettuce, cucumber, apple, and even a little bit of carrot! We also provide them with cuttlebone, which gives them the calcium they need to keep their shells strong and healthy.
Why We Love Our Snails
Caring for Gary and Harry has been a fantastic learning opportunity for our students. They teach us about responsibility, patience, and the wonders of nature. Our snails are also a reminder of how important it is to take care of all living creatures, no matter how big or small. Whether they’re gliding slowly across their tank or peeking out from their shells, they never fail to bring a sense of calm and curiosity to our school.
