KS1 - Year 1 and 2

Work through the tabs to view the curriculum content for Hawthorn, Rowan and Beech. The Topic Overview and Vocabulary tabs feature content that is hyperlinked. These links take you to the knowledge that your child needs to learn in each subject by term. Content tends to be videos or specific BBC Bitesize pages. Don't feel the need to explore the Bitesize pages more generally - this can get overwhelming. Just concentrate on the specific page we've linked to.

At the bottom of the pages, you will find news, events, social media posts, and blogs related to Hawthorn, Rowan and Beech classes.

Welcome to KS1

Please use the tabs to look through specific components of the year 1 and 2 classes. The Topic Overviews are especially exciting, they contain hyperlinks to help you support your child's learning - and possibly refresh your own memories!

Key Stage 1: Building Brilliant Blocks for Learning!

Key Stage 1 is a fantastic time for your child to embark on their educational journey! Here, they'll be introduced to the National Curriculum in a fun and engaging way.

Building Strong Foundations:

Our curriculum, aligned with the National Curriculum, uses a combination of exciting schemes like Lancashire English, Maths Mastery, Kapow, and Jigsaw PSHE (Personal, Social, Health & Economic). These programmes help your child develop essential communication skills (reading, writing, speaking & listening) and a strong foundation in maths, all through creative and interactive learning experiences.

Reading Adventures:

We use the fantastic Monster Phonics scheme to teach and solidify phonics skills. The Monster Phonics approach uses visual cues and multisensory teaching as an enhanced method of systematic synthetic phonics, which significantly improves progress. Your child will have access to a fully aligned decodable reading scheme including fiction and non-fiction texts to practise at home!

Neat and Speedy Writing:

Writing at Key Stage 1 is focused on developing writing skills. At this stage, writing typically involves sentence creation, phonetic spelling, grammar, handwriting, storytelling, lists and labels and spelling and vocabulary.  At KS1, the goal is to build confidence and foundational skills that will support more complex writing tasks in later stages.

Remember:

While some resources may be used with specific groups within Key Stage 1, every child learns differently. We cater to individual needs and ensure all our pupils have the support they need to flourish.
