Welcome to St. Peter's C of E Primary School

We are a thriving community in the heart of Darwen, serving the parish of St Peter’s Church. Our school is set in extensive grounds, offering rich outdoor learning opportunities and breathtaking views of the town and surrounding countryside. Our forest school utilises all outdoor areas, allowing children to explore their environment and develop valuable independence, social, and thinking skills.

At St. Peter’s, we have places for 315 children, with 45 in each year group. Currently, we have 11 classes: five in the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 (Reception, Year 1, and Year 2) and six in Key Stage 2 (Years 3 to 6). To keep class sizes small, children are organised into either straight or mixed year groups based on age and social grouping.

Our team of dedicated teachers and support staff provide a broad and rich curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of the children. Each child is encouraged, engaged, and challenged to reach their potential while building the resilience and independence, to approach the next stage of their education with confidence and enthusiasm. Our Christian values of Love, Respect, Trust, Truthfulness, and Forgiveness lay the foundation for their journey through life. We emphasise nurturing and developing healthy mindsets to help all our children grow and flourish, using the gifts that God has given them.

All classes are well-equipped to accommodate a wide range of teaching methods. Each classroom features carpeted areas for informal class sessions and activities, and staff take pride in creating a lively and interesting atmosphere with children’s work widely displayed and celebrated. Additionally, we have a good-sized hall, a library, several additional teaching areas, a kitchen, a stage, a staffroom, and offices. Every classroom has a bank of iPads and access to class laptops for everyday use.

One of the great attractions of our school is the surrounding grounds and sports field. We have two large playgrounds and an enclosed smaller playground for the Foundation Stage, as well as an adventure playground, tyre park, enclosed wildlife area, sports cage, and inner courtyard garden. These facilities provide ample space for physical activities and exploration.

As a Christian family at St Peter’s School, we create a unique place of learning, nurturing the gifts that God in His awesomeness has given us. We encourage every child and prepare them for life’s journey, inspiring them to fulfil their potential, dreams, and aspirations.
